DIY Deep Conditioning for natural hair

If you want to keep your hair healthy, shiny and well-conditioned, using a deep conditioning hair mask frequently as an effective course will give you the result you want. It also helps to prevent hair loss.

If you on a budget or a DIY person like me, you could always whip up something from your very own kitchen. It will be quick, natural, chemical free and easy to mix in the comfort of your own home.

Here are some remedies you can try.

The yogurt mask

Plain yogurt has so many health benefits due to the fact that it has live enzymes in it. If you want shiny well conditioned hair, just apply PLAIN yogurt to your hair and wrap round in a plastic cap, leave the yogurt on your hair for 30-45mins then rinse with lukewarm water while using a moisturising shampoo/conditioner.

Repeat this 3 times a week and your hair will feel really moisturised and super soft and smooth.

Virgin Olive Oil.

Olive oil is a wonderful hair care ingredient. You can use it as a hot oil treatment or as a base for any hair mask you concoct. It makes the hair less coarse and the strands are much softer and easier to manage. Another benefit of olive oil on the hair is its ability to keep your split ends in check and it also helps control dry scalp. If you have dandruff, just rub this oil on your scalp every day and you will see result with regular application.

The mix

Bananas, olive oil, glycerin, and honey

This homemade conditioner helps softens the hair making it easier to manage. The secret is in the banana, it has a way of minimising shrinkage and softening the hair when mixed with the other ingredients. Meanwhile, glycerin and honey, which are both humectants, and olive oil, which is known to penetrate the hair, all contribute moisturizing benefits.  Do not be alarmed if you notice a loosening of your curls with this conditioner; the effect is temporary until your next wash day.

This recipe is ideal for naturals who want to achieve easier blow-outs or better stretched styles.

Ingredients:
1 large overripe banana
4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 tbsp pure vegetable glycerin
2 tbsp pure honey

Instructions:

Place the sliced banana, olive oil, glycerin, and honey all in a blender. Blend the ingredients thoroughly making sure no lumps or banana bits remain. Apply to hair and let sit for 30-45 minutes under a shower cap. Detangle, rinse thoroughly, and style as usual.

Till next time. Stay Beautiful.x
